Course Objectives:
The student will be able to give a complete therapeutic massage by the end of this course. This includes but is not limited to:
- Perform the four basic Swedish massage strokes: effleurage, petrissage, friction, and percussion, along with several variations of each.
- Recognize and perform the appropriate use of effleurage, petrissage, friction and percussion on the back and front of the torso.
- Recognize and perform the application of effleurage, petrissage, friction and percussion on the legs and feet.
- Recognize and perform the application of effleurage, petrissage, friction and percussion on the arms and hands.
- Recognize and perform the application of effleurage, petrissage, friction and percussion on the neck and head
- Perform proper draping techniques in relation to therapeutic massage.
- Recognize client indicators of relaxation such as breathing rate and temperature.
- Recognize and apply appropriate pressure to apply during a massage
- Demonstrate an understanding of the professional conduct required to be a Certified Massage Therapist.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of body mechanics.
- Demonstrate the hands-on skills related to each massage technique learned in class.

- Students conclude this course proficient in basic oil massage techniques and are able to confidently administer a fifty-minute Swedish massage in a spa, clinic, or other professional business environment.
Course Description:
In this course, students will be shown how to give a full body, therapeutic massage using several different modalities, including Swedish, Deep Tissue, and Reflexology. A different area of the body will be addressed in each class providing students techniques they can use to create a full body massage. Proper biomechanics, posture, injury prevention, table management and professional draping techniques are included in this course.
